The Helen Keller International is recruiting a Monitoring & Evaluation Assistant for Nhamatanda and Muanza Districts, Sofala Province.

Background:
Helen Keller International is implementing a multifaceted development project in Nhamatanda and Muanza Districts, Sofala Province. The project addresses Climate-Smart Agriculture, Nutrition and Health, Livelihood, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) interventions to strengthen resilience and improve the quality of life for vulnerable communities in the region.
Position Summary:
The M&E Assistant will play a key role in monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities to ensure effective, data-driven decision-making and measure the impact of project activities. The M&E Assistant will be responsible for developing and implementing M&E frameworks, managing data collection and analysis, and reporting on project outcomes across agriculture, nutrition, livelihood, and GBV components. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in rural settings with diverse communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitoring & Evaluation Framework Development:
- Design, implement, and maintain an M&E framework that aligns with project goals and donor requirements.
- Develop indicators and metrics specific to Climate-Smart Agriculture, Nutrition, Livelihoods, and GBV components, ensuring relevance to project outcomes.
- Collaborate with project teams to integrate M&E activities across all project components.
Data Collection, Management, and Analysis:
- Lead data collection processes, including baseline, midline, and endline assessments.
- Utilize both quantitative and qualitative methods for data collection, ensuring accuracy and quality control.
- Manage project databases, ensuring secure storage and regular updating of project data.
- Analyze data to provide actionable insights that inform project strategies and improvements.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare timely and accurate reports on project performance, outcomes, and impacts for the Project Manager, donors, and other stakeholders.
- Document lessons learned, best practices, and case studies to share within the organization and with partners.
- Ensure compliance with reporting requirements, including data disaggregation by gender, age, and other relevant demographics.
Capacity Building and Technical Support:
- Train project staff, partners, and local stakeholders on M&E tools, data collection techniques, and reporting requirements.
- Provide technical support on data interpretation and help project teams integrate M&E findings into their programming.
- Develop user-friendly tools and templates for data collection and reporting.
Stakeholder Engagement and Learning:
- Engage with project stakeholders, including government agencies, community leaders, and partner organizations, to communicate M&E findings and promote data-driven decision-making.
- Organize learning events to share insights and foster continuous improvement across project components.
- Represent Helen Keller International at local and regional meetings focused on M&E practices and learning.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Monitoring & Evaluation, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Public Health, Development Studies, or a related field. Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in M&E roles for development projects, particularly in agriculture, nutrition, livelihood, or GBV.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in M&E methodologies, including both qualitative and quantitative research techniques.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, STATA, Excel).
- Familiarity with Climate-Smart Agriculture, nutrition programming, livelihood improvement, and GBV response mechanisms.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a challenging environment.
- Language: Fluency in Portuguese is required. Knowledge of English and local languages in Sofala Province is an advantage.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to travel frequently within Nhamatanda and Muanza districts.
- Knowledge of local context and familiarity with Nhamatanda and Muanza Districts is an advantage.
