The Helen Keller International is recruiting a Nutrition Project Officer, ADA for Sofala.

Helen Keller International is implementing a multi-sectoral development project in Nhamatanda and Muanza districts of Sofala Province. The project integrates Climate-Smart Agriculture, Nutrition and Health, Livelihood, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) components to enhance resilience, improve food security, promote gender equality, and foster healthier communities.
Helen Keller is seeking a Nutrition Officer who will work under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator as an integral member of the project team responsible for delivering goals, objectives, and activities under this multi-sectorial project.
The Nutrition Officer is responsible for directing, organizing, and controlling nutrition activities and communicating with stakeholders relevant for these. He/she will assist the Project Coordinator with planning, communicating risks, opportunities, and current state of the project, providing technical guidance to enhance the nutrition impact of the project.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform project activity implementation, coordination, and facilitation:
- Participate in project activities with Provincial/District Health Office and other key partners.
- Provide technical support on Vitamin A supplementation Program (VAS), prevention and management of acute malnutrition, and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) interventions as per the national guidelines for nutrition.
- Facilitate the development and scheduling of outreach activities (such as community volunteer activities, mother to mother support groups, mobile team activities etc).
- Conduct periodic assessment with health partners that regularly measure project performance toward attaining goals and indicators.
- Facilitate cross-sectoral programming, particularly to promote excellent communication and referral between different programs such as IYCF, CMAM, health, food distribution, WASH etc.
- Implement all project activities in collaboration with all stakeholders at all levels from the province down to the community.
- Develop SBCC strategy for Nutrition, hygiene training, and awareness training
- Support and follow-up on the implementation of project activities in accordance with proposed activities and with project coordinator instructions;
- Conduct field visits as necessary to monitor project implementation;
- Coordinate all donor requirements and specifications, including the preparation of all progress reports, establish and maintain a standard and systematic recording and reporting system that will provide consistent, accurate and timely information;
- Oversee monitoring and evaluation of the project ensuring achievement of project indicators;
- Developing success stories and producing technical documentation on the various experiences of the project;
- To take part in carrying out studies and research on the project during the lifetime of the project;
- Initiate and conduct regular coordination meetings with project team members and lead planning and guide staff in effective implementation of the Project activities in the province;
- Participation in all provincial related meetings (all clusters);
- Assist in the trainings and development of other tools which are essential for staff development and community-based interventions;
- Identify/suggest specific local strategies for reaching the target populations regarding the community management of acute malnutrition;
- Implement the activities outlined in the project’s work plan in accordance with the established timetables.
Communication and Coordination
- Develop and maintain regular and supportive communication structures with the assigned health/nutrition team and Helen Keller Intl in-country team, and other stakeholders (e.g. beneficiaries, community leaders, government officials, UN agencies and other NGOs), to ensuring good cooperation and partnerships.
- Participate in health/nutrition coordination meetings, Helen Keller Intl internal trainings, and other working groups or meetings, representing Helen Keller Intl and provide a feeding back to the health/nutrition staff and field staff.
Logistics
- Support the logistics activities of project staff.
- Liaise, as necessary, with the health and nutrition, logistics and finance staff to ensure items are managed and accounted for correctly.
Quality Management
Ensure projects are implemented in line with donor proposals and requirements and in accordance with Helen Keller Intl, national, and international standards.
Team Spirit
- Reflect the values of Helen Keller Intl with team members, local staff, beneficiaries, and external contacts.
- Acts as the focal point for all project related issues and is responsible for proper coordination among all concerned stakeholders.
- The Project Officer is responsible for continues coordination of staff, stockholders, beneficiaries, local community and oversees correct and on time implementation of all components of the project.

Qualifications
- Higher level qualification, preferably in health/nutrition or in another relevant field such as nursing/midwifery/doctor/food security/community-based training.
- Experience/Competencies
- 3 years post-qualification professional experience in a relevant field.
- Management experience in a nutrition/health context.
- Good numerical, report writing and administration skills.
- Knowledge and experience of nutrition and primary health care principles and management. Wide experience implementing CMAM and SBCC programs.
- Knowledge of the country’s food security context, particularly in the province of Tet
- Language: Fluency in Portuguese is required.
- Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written).
- Knowledge of local languages spoken in Sofala Province is an advantage.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to travel frequently to project sites within Nhamatanda and Muanza districts.
- Knowledge of local context and familiarity with Nhamatanda and Muanza Districts is an advantage.
