AKASHINGA is recruiting (1) Maintenance Technician.

AKASHINGA, in partnership with Africa Futura Wildlife Restoration, is a nature conservation entity – a unique model NGO that delivers resilient nature conservation programmes of global significance through community-driven partnerships, creating resilient ecosystems where nature, wildlife, and communities thrive together, to restore and manage a growing network of Mozambique’s communal wildlife areas.
Role Description
The C5 Maintenance Technician is the person principally tasked with supporting Coutada 5’s Technical Services Sector with preventative infrastructural maintenance, repairs, electrical power provision, water provision and sewage management. In specific terms, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance:
- Adhere to a preventative infrastructural maintenance schedule and review this on a monthly basis;
- React to all reports in of infrastructural damage and repairs in a timely fashion;
- Support the team with all other required maintenance and repairs, as per need and capacity;
Electrics:
- Monitor the functioning of the various solar systems and ensure their performance;
- Ensure the functioning of the electrical grid and distribution in a proactive manner;
- Take the lead in assessing the need for and roll out of required solar and electrical grid expansion;
Plumbing:
- Oversee the production of potable water at HQ through desalination meets operational needs
- Supervise the reticulation of water at all sites, ensuring sufficient pressure is maintained at all times
- Monitor the functioning of sewage systems at all sites in a proactive manner;
- Take the lead in assessing the need for and roll out of required water and sewage system expansion;
Maintenance Logistics:
- Work with stores to ensure that important consumables are sufficiently stocked at all times;
- Take ownership of the required tools for the job and their maintenance and safekeeping;
- Supervise crews of casual workers that may be tasked to support with maintenance jobs;
- Produce BoQs and place material orders for larger maintenance jobs;
- Monitor maintenance intervals of relevant equipment and work with the Workshop to meet them;
Key measures and objectives
- Longevity of fixed infrastructure;
- Incidence of avoidable power cuts;
- Incidence of avoidable water shortages;
- Incidence of delays due to material shortage;
Key relationships
- Line Manager (TBD);
- Workshop staff (equip. maintenance);
- Stores supervisor (stock management);
- Casual workers (supporting labor);
Certification, skills and experience required for the position:
- A trade certificate or higher focused on either plumbing or electrics
- If electrically oriented: demonstrable experience in sizing, installing and maintaining solar systems
- A minimum of three years working experience in relevant roles
- A hands-on
- At least two traceable workplace references
Success looks like the following:
- A well-executed maintenance schedule;
- All electrical needs met through solar;
- All water/plumbing needs met;
- A responsive and fast maintenance crew;
