P&O Maritime Mozambique S.A. is currently seeking to recruit 6 Maritime Operations Interns based in Maputo City, who will support the Operations Department in carrying out daily port and vessel operations activities, contributing to safe, efficient, and compliant maritime operations. The internship aims to provide hands-on experience in marine logistics, planning, and documentation in a dynamic port environment.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM ACTIVITIES
- Support in the safe navigation and maneuvering of service boats under supervision.
- Assist with pre-departure and post-arrival vessel checks and reporting.
- Learn and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for boat operations.
- Help ensure compliance with local maritime laws and COLREGs (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea).
- Learn and apply procedures for safe berthing, unberthing, towing, and escorting vessels.
- Participate in safety drills and emergency preparedness activities.
- Record and report any incidents, defects, or irregularities observed during operations.
- Contribute to the upkeep of navigational equipment and safety gear.
- Perform any other duties assigned.
- Observe and support compliance with local maritime regulations and international safety standards.
- Support the maintenance and inspection of towing equipment, engines, and onboard systems.
- Assist in preparing operational logs, fuel reports, and movement records.
- Contribute to the cleanliness, order, and operational readiness of the boats.
- Follow instructions from the Master, other crew members and supervisors during operations.
- Develop an understanding of ship handling principles, VHF communication, and maneuvering techniques.
- Observe and support compliance with local maritime regulations and international safety standards.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Certificate from Fisheries School. A degree in Nautical Science, Maritime Operations will be considered an advantage.
- Local Traffic License (Carta de Arrais de Tráfego Local) required. Coastal Master License (Carta de Mestre Costeiro) will be considered an advantage.
- Valid Maritime Seaman’s Book.
- Basic Safety Training Certificates (STCW) will be considered an advantage.
- Knowledge of boat handling, navigation, and safety regulations.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in demanding maritime environments.
- Willingness to learn and follow safety and operational protocols.
- Punctuality, discipline, and a strong work ethic.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Fluency of Portuguese and English (spoken and written).
- Availability for shift work, including weekends, early mornings, and night hours.
