Job Summary:
The Senior Linux System Administrator will be responsible for managing and maintaining all in-country hosted infrastructure, primarily focusing on servers running Linux operating systems. The role also includes supporting Windows servers and VMware virtualization environments. The Senior System Administrator will work closely with other system administrators and network administrators in the team, as well as with system admins and support teams from Absa SA, and international vendors and managed service consultants. The role requires compliance with Tech, Cyber Security, BCM, Data and Information security standards, and the implementation of related controls.
Main Activities:
- Manage and maintain Linux servers and ensure their optimal performance and availability.
- Support Windows servers and VMware virtualization environments.
- Manage Dell compute, storage, and network infrastructure, as well as IBM SAN storage.
- Collaborate with system admins and support teams from Absa SA, and international vendors and consultants to ensure seamless operations.
- Implement and comply with Absa Tech, Cyber Security, BCM, Data and Information security standards.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external audit requirements and address any findings related to Linux systems.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for Linux systems in production.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for Linux systems during DR and Restore exercise.
- Work with cloud infrastructure and container technology to support the organization’s needs.
- Ensure high availability and reliability of all managed systems.
- Maintain documentation and provide regular updates on the status of the infrastructure.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends in system administration.
- Implement and manage security measures to protect Linux systems from cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools to streamline system administration tasks and improve efficiency.
- Monitor system performance and resource utilization, and make recommendations for improvements.
- Coordinate with the IT security team to ensure that Linux systems adhere to the organization’s security policies and standards.
- Participate in capacity planning and performance tuning activities to ensure the scalability and reliability of Linux systems.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior system administrators and other IT staff on Linux-related topics.
- Implement and manage a comprehensive patch management process to ensure all Linux systems are up-to-date with the latest security patches and updates.
- Develop and execute an obsolescence management plan to identify and replace outdated hardware and software components.
- Plan and execute migration projects to upgrade Linux systems to the latest versions, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
- Design and implement backup and restore procedures to ensure data integrity and availability in case of system failures or disasters.
- Regularly test backup and restore processes to ensure they are effective and can be executed within the required timeframes.
- Monitor and report on the status of patch compliance across all Linux systems, and address any non-compliance issues promptly.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to ensure that all Linux systems are supported and maintained according to the organization’s standards.
- Develop and maintain documentation for all patch management, obsolescence management, migration, backup, and restore processes.

Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree: Information Technology.
