Job objective:
This position is responsible for the financial- and management accounting function for the company. The role is also responsible for assisting with implementation of financial controls. In addition, the incumbent should contribute to ongoing efficiency improvements in all areas of the business. The position interacts directly with senior / operational managers in all functional areas.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the full management accounting function for the, ensure accounting records are valid, complete, accurate, and correctly classified. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting and corporate policies and ensure that entries are recorded in compliance with the policies and accounting standards. Take ownership of balance sheet, income statement and cash flow;
- Prepare weekly and monthly operational and management reports;
- Provision of relevant, accurate and timeous financial information for decision-making, planning, cost control and performance evaluation. Know the reasons of profit or loss and variances and study the factors which influence efficiency to assist in decision making (cause and effect);
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for cost reduction;
- Interpreting financial information by collecting and analyzing data;
- Ensure costing system is robust, compliant, accurate, and that it supports current & future growth. Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies and make the necessary changes to the costing system;
- Ensure that systems, policies and procedures are in place for all business cycles and that these are documented. Review business processes and procedures – simplify, improve and ensure that internal controls are in place and are effective. Continuously focus on system- and process upgrades and improvements;
- Ensure stock balances are valid, complete and accurate and ensure that the accounting records reflect the true value of inventory by performing regular stock takes and evaluating the costing on a regular basis.
- Ensure that processes & controls are effectively monitored daily, weekly & monthly;
- Prepare forecasts and budgets in accordance with the business requirements & corporate deliverables;
- Year End statutory reporting and liaising with auditors. Clean Audit (internal and external) reports – i.e. no serious findings;
- Assist FD, FM and Senior Management in performing various ad-hoc functions;
- Improvement of month end processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance or related field;
- Professional qualification ACCA, CIMA, or masters attained or working towards;
- Significant experience in the resources sector is desirable;
- Excellent Microsoft excel skills;
- Strong commitment, leadership, management, interpersonal and influencing skills;
- Excellent English and Portuguese written and verbal communication skills;
- Team player capable of working effectively and productively with other managers across a diverse cultural environment;
- Experience of understanding and managing financial and commercial issues in an operational and challenging environment of rapid growth;
- An autonomous, self-disciplined, empowering person guided by corporate strategy and directives;
- Strongly oriented with a clear determination to succeed;
- Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to establish & maintain strong relationships with all staff;
